Raising Money for Your 2019 Trip

At the time of writing, the old year is drawing to a close, and the new one is about to begin. What will it hold for you? Where will you travel? How many items on your bucket list will you get to tick off along the way? I know that doing a Safari in west or south Africa is still high on my list, and planning another trip to visit my friendly giant pals.

The world is your proverbial oyster (whatever that means), but to get to see and do everything you want, you are going to need some money behind you to fund your travels. While there are ways to travel cheaply, of course, you will still need some money to see you through, both at the outset and in the event of an emergency while away.

Here are some ideas you might find useful.

Sell anything you don’t need. Refresh your new year with a cleanup of everything you don’t need to own and sell anything of any worth online. Amazon, Gumtree, and eBay are just some of the online retailers at your disposal. And considering Christmas is just around the corner, this is also a good opportunity to sell any of those unwanted Christmas gifts, and you can trade and exchange gift cards for cash online if you have any that are surplus to your requirements.

Take on extra work. If you’re reading this around Christmas time, you should consider taking on temporary seasonal work if you have the time to do it. Shelf-stacking for a busy high street store or packaging gifts for a local manufacturer are just a couple of the jobs that are advertised at this time of year. You might also work overtime if your current job allows it, or you might take on a side-hustle to boost your income to raise money for your travels.

Make savings in your life. Cut down on your everyday expenses, and you will be able to save more money for travel. So, stop eating takeaways, curb the temptation to buy anything you don’t actually need, and ditch your car for a while, and look for cheaper ways to get around town. The more ways you can find to save money, the more cash you will be able to put into your travels saving account (or jar). Wisdom and frugality are the words to live by if you want to see the world.

Work while traveling. Having raised enough money to leave your country, you may then be able to take on temporary work while on your travels. There are all kinds of things you can do, from fruit picking to travel blogging, so consider the ideas listed here as viable ways to make money as you move from place to place.
